Developing a Winning Strategy
Developing a good, winning online poker strategy is an evolving process.  If you're sitting at the table with no strategy playing haphazardly then you're probably losing more money than you're winning.  If you're playing with play money and simply to entertain yourself, then you really don't need a strategy.  Just enjoy the social interaction and stimulation.  However, if you're playing for profit then you will need to improve your game quickly.

Building a Solid, Winning Strategy

Here are some solid tips to help you improve your game in order to make the maximum amount of cash that you can win. Because building your bankroll is all that matters online.  First, stay in position. Having position on your online opponents and being the last to react is very important. Constantly winding up in an earlier position increases the risk of losing.

Pay attention to the types of hands you play out of certain positions.  Hands like AA, KK, QQ, and AK should be played loose if you're in a late position. You should play tight if you're in an early position with these cards.  The same holds true for gappers like 9-7, or 5-7.

Playing AK Correctly

This is done incorrectly online all the time. If you raise in early position with AK, pick up four callers and miss the flop, you lose. Many players are guilty of this misstep.  If you don't flop well, give it up, don't prolong the error. Another error happens when a player goes all in on a pre-flop with hands like AK or AQ.  Wait to make a move after the flop. It will work out better for you.

Playing the Blind

The money that you put into the blinds is not yours, so let go of owning it. It is always nice to flop top pair out of the blinds, however, it's easy to go broke when someone is slow to play a big hand, which actually happens a lot of the time online.  Go ahead and steal the blinds. The more players who get knocked out, the more you will need to steal the blinds. There is a rule called the 8 big blind rule. When there are five or fewer players at the table and everyone is short on chips, it is okay to shove all of your chips into the middle.  This will force the others at the table to make tight moves to your advantage.

Staying aggressive at all times.  Unless you're trapping, always raise. The shorter the table the more you raise, especially in the late position.  Players will raise with an Ace rag, but will not want to cal a re-raise with those types of hands.

Playing smart, savvy and aggressive is always the way to win in online poker.
